Central New York is experiencing a significant increase in flu cases, with Onondaga County reporting the highest number of infections. During the week ending December 28, Onondaga County recorded 218 flu cases, followed by Oneida County with 141 cases, and Oswego County with 78 cases. Health experts emphasize the importance of getting a flu shot, practicing good hygiene, and avoiding large crowds to protect against the flu.

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) compiles and analyzes flu activity data year-round, producing weekly reports during the flu season, which typically runs from October through May. However, due to the ongoing high levels of flu activity, the NYSDOH has extended its surveillance season beyond May until flu activity decreases.

The NYSDOH continues to monitor the situation closely and provides updates on flu activity across the state.
