A man from Canada is facing multiple charges after allegedly ramming his SUV into another car and assaulting police officers. James Turner, the victim, captured the event on his dashcam, which later went viral on social media.
The suspect, identified as Trevor Marchildon, 37, is accused of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and other charges. According to CBC News, Turner was driving behind a Toyota Rav 4 when it began swerving. Concerned, Turner flashed his headlights, thinking the driver might be distracted. The SUV then pulled over, and when Turner stopped to offer help, the driver allegedly reversed into his car.
The situation escalated when the SUV attempted to push Turner's vehicle off a bridge. Turner managed to escape and drive towards the police station, but the SUV rammed his car again near a local Tim Hortons. Police eventually stopped the suspect's vehicle using a spike belt.
Turner, a nurse, suffered minor injuries and expressed hope that Marchildon would receive the help he needs. The Ontario Provincial Police noted that while road rage incidents are not uncommon, this case appears to be isolated.
The dashcam footage, which can watch below, has been submitted as evidence for upcoming court proceedings.
