Texas Lawmakers Are Looking To Further Strengthen Your Gun Rights

With the 89th Texas legislative session set to start next week, Texas lawmakers have already begun efforts to strengthen gun rights.

Specifically, state representative Briscoe Cain, from Deer Park who filed House Bill 1715.

"House Bill 1715 requires government contracts to include a provision that protects the right of licensed handgun holders to carry on government property" Cain said, "Ensuring that private entities using taxpayer owned property cannot ban license & carry where it's legally allowed."

This all stems from last year, when the Texas State Fair banned attendees from bringing firearms.

"Everybody was pretty irritated" Cain told KTRH, "We were all under the impression that you can carry on government owned property. Texans are passionate about protecting their constitutional rights, and ensuring their freedom to carry."

At the end of the day, it's a 2nd Amendment issue and loophole, that will hopefully be cleared up in Austin.

"The response to this bill has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing the bill as a step in the right direction " noted Cain, "And I believe it will pass."

If HB 1715 does pass, it would go into effect on September 1st.
