Wintry Mix Continues For Monday Morning Commute

Photo: ABC13 - WSET

The Roanoke and Lynchburg areas continue to be under a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service through 7:00 this evening.

For school closings and road information, please visit our STORM CENTER page.

Here's more from ABC13 - WSET Chief Meteorologist George Flickinger:

Monday morning watch for a mixture of sleet, snow, and freezing rain along Highway 460 and most of the NRV.

Still a mostly rain event during this stretch for areas right along the VA/NC border, and still a mostly snow event along and north of Highway 60.

This is when we could start to see some rather tricky travel in parts of the area. Use caution if you have to be outside.

Monday we do start to dry out especially by Monday afternoon, but we will have a few hours on Monday morning to where a majority of the area will be getting in on a mixture of mostly sleet and freezing rain.

The Monday morning commute is looking quite rough. If you don't have to be on the roads in the morning, I'd hold off.

We may see conditions improve after about lunchtime, but it may be a day to just stay at home if you can.

We may get one final round of winter weather (probably all snow) Monday night but that shouldn't cause much additional accumulations.

Tuesday it's cold - but the sunshine returns and that stays for the rest of the week.

We will need to watch for next weekend as it has some wintery potential but too early to tell much more than that this far out.

Keep up-to-date with the weather from ABC13 - WSET.
