A person was hit by an Amtrak train in Lancaster County on Wednesday (January 1). The incident occurred near Rheems shortly before 5:30 p.m. According to Amtrak, the individual was trespassing on the tracks at the time of the accident. The condition of the person is currently unknown.

The train was traveling from Harrisburg to New York City when the incident happened. Amtrak has stated that they are working with local law enforcement to investigate the accident. No passengers on the train were injured. Amtrak police are leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Amtrak has emphasized the importance of safety around train tracks and reiterated that trespassing is illegal and dangerous. The company is cooperating fully with authorities to determine the cause of the accident and prevent future occurrences.
