A Houston couple has died after their North Side home caught fire.
Houston Fire Department personnel were notified about 4 am Saturday that a house was on fire on Rebecca Street near Bauman Rd., after a neighbor said he saw smoke coming from the home.
Firefighters first attempted rescue but burglar bars on the home hampered the search for anyone in the home.
They did find an older man and woman lying on the floor in a bedroom, according to a fire official.
Emergency Medical Services started resuscitation on the two victims as they were being loaded in an ambulance, but the two were pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.
An investigation into the cause of the fire began immediately after the blaze was put out, according to officials.
