TORRANCE (CNS) - A 31-year-old Inglewood man was killed Friday when the sedan he was riding in crashed into an electric support pole in Torrance.

The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m Friday in the 18800 block of Hawthorne Boulevard near 190th Street, according to the Torrance Police Department.

A 46-year-old Hawthorne man driving the gray 2024 Nissan Sentra was taken by ambulance to a hospital with major injuries, police said. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

The initial investigation indicated the Sentra was northbound on Hawthorne at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control on a curve and crashed into a pole on the east curb, police said.

Northbound lanes of Hawthorne were closed about four hours between 190th and 188th streets, police said.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the Traffic Division at 310-618-5557.
