New York State owes unclaimed money to thousands of residents and businesses across the Hudson Valley. According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, over 3,000 individuals and businesses in Dutchess County, including those in Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park, and Wappinger, are eligible for payouts. Additionally, more than 1,000 residents in Kingston, Ulster County, are also owed money.
The New York State Comptroller's Office has collected these unclaimed funds over the years. Residents must check the state's online database to see if they are owed money. There is no fee to reclaim these funds, but if they remain unclaimed for several years, the money goes into the state's general fund for public programs and services.
To find out if you have unclaimed funds, visit the New York State Comptroller's website. The database allows users to search for their names and claim any money owed to them.
