A firefighter from the Albany Fire Department is recovering after sustaining minor injuries while battling a fire on Sheridan Avenue on Thursday (December 26). The fire broke out at 323 Sheridan Ave and spread to the neighboring property at 325 Sheridan Ave. Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 4:30 p.m. and managed to control the blaze by 5:30 p.m.

According to Albany Fire Chief Joseph Gregory, the fire was concentrated in the cockloft area of both buildings. Fortunately, no residents were home at the time, and there were no civilian injuries. The injured firefighter was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Albany Codes Department and City Engineer are assessing the stability and damage of the affected structures. In response to the incident, authorities temporarily closed Sheridan Avenue between Henry Johnson Boulevard and Lexington Avenue.

This fire marks the second significant blaze in Albany within 24 hours, following a fire on Christmas night that affected multiple buildings on Second Street.
