A boil water advisory is currently in place for residents of Lemoyne Borough in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, following a main water break on Monday evening (December 16). The advisory affects approximately 10 customer connections along Lowther Street, part of Pennsylvania American Water’s Mechanicsburg system.
Residents are advised to boil water for at least one minute and let it cool before using it for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and food preparation. This precaution is necessary because untreated water may contain harmful organisms such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms like nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and headaches.
Pennsylvania American Water is actively working to repair the main break and is collecting water samples to ensure safety. Customers will be notified once the advisory is lifted. For more information, residents can visit the Pennsylvania American Water website.
The Environmental Protection Agency's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 offers general guidelines on reducing the risk of infection by microbes. Residents, especially those with infants, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems, should consult healthcare providers for advice on using the water during this advisory.
