GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Much of the region is under a winter storm warning or winter weather advisory until 7 p.m.
More than 300 closures and delays have been announced due to blowing lake-effect snow and cold temperatures.
The closure list can be found here. It includes Grand Rapids Public Schools.
Roads are also said to be very dangerous, despite an all-nighter from local, county and state road agencies.
Currently, it's too cold for road salt to work at maximum effectiveness.
"Salt is really effective at the amount we use on the roads down to 20 degrees," Steve Roon, the director of local road construction and maintenance for the Kent County Road Commission, told WOOD-TV.
Drivers are generally being told to take it slow or avoid travel entirely.
