(Clinton County, IA) -- Over a dozen sirens in Clinton County will no longer sound to warn residents of severe weather.
The Clinton County Emergency Management Commission is voting to discontinue use of 18 sirens formerly owned by nuclear generating station Constellation.
The Commission cites the high cost of taking over the sirens as the reason for the move.
The 15 municipalities in Clinton County affected have the option to decide whether they will take over sirens in their communities.
A program to offer free weather radios to Clinton County residents is underway.
