Black People Magic: Remembering Reese G of 3Piece

We are paying tribute to the Black People Magic of a Chicago music industry OG and friend of the station, Reese G, lead singer of R&B group 3Piece. He passed away on Thursday at just 49 years old. Social media was in a frenzy on Wednesday night and Thursday morning with news that he was in the hospital.

Reese G, whose given name was Maurice Walker, was also a writer, arranger and producer. He was the band’s cornerstone, known for smooth vocals and charismatic stage presence. He also worked with other artists, including Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Omarion. 3Piece debuted in the late 90s and their album First Come First Served featured the hit single Ooh Ahh, that became a staple on WGCI, staying on the air for a record 42 weeks. Their most recent album, L.O.V.E. was released last year.

His brother & bandmate Martin Walker shared this message on Facebook, “My brother Reese G 3Piece is officially no longer with us in physical form but he will always remain with us in our hearts and minds... I’m proud of my brother and what he contributed to my life, our family’s lives, our fans’ lives, to Chicago music history and beyond... His powerful voice will forever be appreciated by people all over the world... Until we meet again bro, I love you.”

& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
