Florida U.S. Senator Rick Scott is happy that Pete Hegseth is vowing to stay in as President-elect Trump's Defense Secretary nominee.
The combat veteran and former Fox News host made that vow this morning as he continues to meet with Senators on Capitol Hill.
Scott notes that he himself is a veteran, joining the Navy at the "tail end" of the Vietnam War.
"When I went in we were fighting communism in Southeast Asia, and we went in because we believed in this country. I want somebody that knows that there's risk in doing that. And I've talked to Pete. I support Pete because he knows all these things because he led it. That was part of his life."
The Wall Street Journal reports that Trump is considering replacing Hegseth with Governor DeSantis or someone else due to concerns that he won't get enough support in the Senate. But Scott says he believes Hegseth WILL get confirmed and be a "great Secretary of Defense" because he served and led people in battle and understands the risk of sending people overseas.
The Republican Senator also spoke with Joel Malkin on The Brian Mudd Show about a planned meeting between members of the House DOGE Caucus and the two men who will lead the Department of Government Efficiency.
Scott plans to be in the U.S. House tomorrow, when Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will get together with Congressional Republicans and at least one Democrat.
Scott says the department is needed and compares it to what he says he did as governor of Florida, coming in with a bloated budget and balancing it.
In announcing that he was joining the DOGE Caucus yesterday, South Florida Democrat Rep. Jared Moskowitz noted that "reducing ineffective government spending should not be a partisan issue."
