Police in Lantana are investigating after a driver had to be extricated from their vehicle along the FEC tracks yesterday.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says the vehicle was struck by a Brightline train near Hypoluxo Road after 4 p.m. and the driver was airlifted to a trauma center. Their condition is unknown.

According to Department of Transportation data, Lantana is the South Florida city with the fourth most crashes involving Brightline trains and the only one in Palm Beach.

Pompano Beach, Hollywood and Deerfield Beach are the top 3. A majority of the crashes are due to either a vehicle or a pedestrian stopped on the tracks.
