A district judge has approved a request for a competency exam for a 40-year-old Cedar Springs man accused of attacking a Grand Rapids Township fire lieutenant.
40-year-old Robert Joppe was arrested after allegedly sticking his thumb in the lieutenant's eye. If he is found incompetent, he would undergo treatment until he is healthy enough to participate, at which point the court case against him would proceed.
