The United States Senate has confirmed Catherine Henry as a federal judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The district serves Berks and Lancaster Counties. Henry's confirmation was announced by U.S. Senators John Fetterman and Bob Casey. She is the 11th Pennsylvanian to be nominated to the bench by President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate, and the ninth woman.
Henry has spent nearly 30 years in public defense, representing some of the most vulnerable individuals in Pennsylvania. Since 2002, she has served in the Federal Community Defender’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where she currently works as Senior Litigator. Prior to this, she spent six years as an Assistant Defender with the Defender Association of Philadelphia.
Senator Fetterman said, “Cathy Henry has spent nearly 30 years fighting for justice and making sure every Pennsylvanian has the legal representation guaranteed by our Constitution. That’s why I was proud to advocate for her nomination and to join my colleagues today in confirming her to the federal bench.”
Henry is a graduate of Drew University and the University of the District of Columbia School of Law. Her confirmation underscores the Biden Administration’s commitment to appointing judges who bring diverse experiences and a dedication to equal justice under the law.
