4Earth Farms recalled "multiple brands of Organic Vegetable Medley, Conventional Vegetable Medley, and Organic Whole Carrots" on November 26 due to possible "Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) O121:H19" contamination.

According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, the bacteria can cause "serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with a weakened immune system." Symptoms can range from "high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and neurologic problems" to "severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting."

The recall pertains only to the carrots included in both the medleys and Organic Whole Carrot products. No illnesses have been reported as of Monday (December 2). Recalled products (listed on fda.gov) were distributed to Albert's Organics, Walmart, and Sprouts Farmers Markets across the country including stores in California and six other states.

Health officials are urging consumers who previously purchased one of the recalled products to throw them out immediately and avoid consumption. Consumers should also be weary of bacteria spreading to their surfaces and should wipe down countertops the recalled carrots touched.

Concerned individuals can contact 4Earth Farms at 855-918-1706, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT with questions. For more information and to see photos of the recalled products, check out the FDA's official recall page.
