Alperen Sengun Named Western Conference Player of the Week

HOUSTON – Today, the NBA announced that Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Dec. 1 (Week 6). Last season, Sengun became the youngest player in franchise history to have won the award after picking up the honor for games played from January 1-7 (Week 11).

The Rockets went 3-0 last week, with Sengun averaging 21.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 9.0 assists, 1.67 steals and 1.67 blocks. He recorded a 20-point double-double in all three games, which is tied for the longest streak of his career. Sengun recorded his third triple-double of the season in the overtime win at Minnesota on 11/26 and had 11 points and 5 rebounds in overtime during the win at Philly the following night. He had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in the fourth quarter of the comeback win against Oklahoma City yesterday, giving the Thunder their first loss of the season when leading after three quarters of play.

Houston has won 10 of its past 12 games and is 15-6 overall this season. That is the Rockets best start to a season since going 17-4 in 2017-18. Houston has also outscored opponents by a total of 173 points this season, which is the second-highest total through the first 21 games in franchise history (+227 in 2017-18). Sengun ranks third in the NBA in plus/minus rating at +179.

For the season, Sengun is averaging 18.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.14 steals and 1.24 blocks. The 22-year-old is the only player in the league averaging at least 18.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 5.0 apg, 1.00 spg and 1.00 bpg this season and would be the 10th different player to accomplish the feat for an entire season in NBA history (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar twice, Giannis Antetokounmpo 5 times, Charles Barkley once, Larry Bird once, DeMarcus Cousins once, Joel Embiid once, Kevin Garnett 6 times, Bill Walton once, Chris Webber once).
