Gardener and Librarian Shares Knowledge with Chillicothe Garden Club

Local gardeners heard advice on “What Every Garden Should Have” in the latest Chillicothe Garden Club meeting. Jen Slone, Access Director for the Chillicothe-Ross County Public Library, shared her love of gardening when she spoke to the group in the Main Library Annex for their November 18th meeting.

She says she is also the library’s “resident gardener,” and took over the library’s community garden last year. Located behind the Main Library, between it and the Annex, Slone said the Ross County Health District asked the library if they wanted to create it to teach residents how to grow their own food.

With “What Every Garden Should Have,” she included “winter sowing” where you can modify milk jugs into outdoor micro-greenhouses for early and safe early germination, to give your garden an early start.

In the “Beyond Books Collection,” the library system has many non-book items available, including a seed library. Seeds are available year-round, and Slone says they are a little low right now – but they will be stocked up.

Hear her in her own words in the interview video in the article on the Scioto Post. She also created a resource page on the library’s website, which includes this and other of her presentations.

To put the year “to bed” (as gardeners say), on December 16th the garden club will gather at Adena Mansion & Gardens to learn about period decorations made from what they have on the grounds.

The club does not have an internet presence, so you can call Priscilla Steele for information at 740 / 656-9439.

The Chillicothe-Ross County Public Library has a website, and accounts for FacebookInstagram, and LinkedIn.
