GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Kent County Prosecutor's Office has files charges against a 40-year-old Robert Daniel-Brent Joppe after he allegedly attacked a fire lieutenant late Saturday afternoon.
That was at the fire station on the East Beltline, south of Knapp Street, in Grand Rapids Township.
Prosecutors are charging Joppe with one count of resisting and opposing an officer causing serious injury ... one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder ... one count of carrying a concealed weapon ... and one count of resisting and opposing a police officer.
Investigators say Joppe attacked the lieutenant before some sheriff's deputies responded and took him to jail. The lieutenant suffered significant injuries.
Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said in a news release he was not certain when Joppe would be formally charged.
"We have charged him with one count of resisting and opposing an officer causing serious injury, a felony punishable by up to 15 years and/or $10,000, one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a felony punishable by up to 10 years or $5,000, one count of carrying a concealed weapon a felony punishable by up to 5 years or $2,500, and one count of resisting an opposing a police officer a felony punishable by a maximum of 2 years and/or $2,000. At this time these are merely charges, Mr. Joppe is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court. We have no information on when he will be arraigned."
