Released on this day in 1973, Piano Man is the second studio album by Billy Joel. Largely considered his breakthrough album, Billy himself admits it wasn't a hit record but it did feature the title track, a fictionalized retelling of Joel's experiences with people he met as a lounge singer in Los Angeles, which would become his signature song.
