Nurses at University Medical Center in New Orleans are on a one-day strike today.
The nurses union authorized the strike last week by a 98-percent vote of the membership.
The hospital issued a statement describing the strike as a "disappointment" and promising patient care won't be disrupted. On Thursday, UMC released another statement echoing the earlier one.
The union gave the hospital ten days' notice prior to the strike, which comes as the nurses are in the middle of negotiating their first contract.
