Woman Wedged Upside Down Between Rocks For Hour To Retrieve Her Phone

A woman in Australia’s Hunter Valley became trapped upside down for seven hours after dropping her phone between two large boulders. While walking with friends, she slipped face-first into a 10-foot crevice while trying to retrieve her phone, leaving her friends unable to help. Rescue teams, including paramedics and volunteers, arrived to find only the soles of her feet visible through a narrow gap in the rocks.

With no phone signal in the area, her friends had to leave to call for help, and rescuers faced the difficult task of removing several large boulders to free her. Peter Watts, a paramedic on the scene, knew the only way to get her out of there, was vertically. Despite being upside down for so long, the 23-year-old woman remained calm, quiet and cooperative, while rescuers carefully removed large rocks, concerned about making the situation worse.

Once freed, the woman was exhausted and dizzy but suffered only minor scratches and bruising. “She was so calm and collected through the whole thing," Watts said, adding she was taken to the hospital for observation—though her phone remains stuck in the rocks.
