Bethany Joy Lenz and Sophia bush didn't necessarily get along while filming beloved 2000s series One Tree Hill.
Lenz (who played Haley James Scott in the series) released her highly-anticipated memoir, Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show, on Tuesday (October 22), highlighting relationships she severed with a few of her co-stars while being involved in a "cult" (otherwise known as The Big House Family, per E!News).
"I was using religion as my benchmark. My budding friendship with sweet Sophia became a casualty of this and instead of sitting shiva for my ego, I really f****** wish I could turn back time, walk into her trailer, and give her a long, hard hug."
Lenz mentioned that she and Bush (who played Brooke Davis in the popular 2000s drama) could have been very close were it not for the grasp the religious group had on her thoughts, ultimately leading to the demise of their short-lived friendship. Despite their rift, the Royal Matchmaker actress spoke highly of Bush in her new memoir, referring to the star as both smart and beautiful.
"As bubbly and compassionate as she was, she was even more intelligent... Her mind could have been put to good use by NASA—except, of course, she's so beautiful the astronauts would never want to leave Earth. I failed to notice that she was also trying hard. Sophia herself was also hilarious. And a bit mischievous—always down for an impulsive adventure."
Lenz, who left the cult shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2012, sat down with Alex Cooper of iHeartRadio podcast Call Her Daddy on October 15th, openly speaking about her OTH rewatch podcast with Bush and Hilarie Burton (who played Peyton Sawyer in the series) and how they reconnected for the project years later.
"On 'Drama Queens' we definitely talked about our time back then and what was hard and how great it was to reconnect and the feelings of unraveling things that were so mysterious to us at the time. It's an ever-evolving journey."
