Several towns in North Jersey experienced unusually warm weather on Tuesday, breaking previous temperature records. According to Bob J. Ziff of the North Jersey Weather Observers, Bergenfield reached a high of 84 degrees, surpassing the previous record for October 22 of 82 degrees set in 2007. NorthJersey.com reports that Sussex and Layton also set records in Sussex County. Sussex hit 85 degrees, breaking the 80-degree record set in 1920, while Layton reached 84 degrees, beating the 81-degree record from 1963.
The highest temperature reported in North Jersey on Tuesday was 87 degrees in Vernon. Other towns that experienced high temperatures include Walpack and New Brunswick, both reaching 85 degrees, and Haworth, Sparta, Sandyston, and Andover, all hitting 84 degrees. Little Falls and Parsippany reported highs of 82 degrees, while Ramsey reached 80 degrees.
Ziff noted that temperatures exceeding 80 degrees in October are not uncommon, with such highs recorded 25 times since 1983. The highest temperature recorded in October was 94 degrees on October 2, 2019.
