The incredible Chaka Khan and legendary drummer Sheila E. represented all the ladies who made history in the music industry at the AMAs.

On Sunday night, October 6, the veteran singer, Sheila E. and her band helped close out the 2024 American Music Awards with a powerful performance. Following an introduction from Kate Hudson, the iconic artists paid tribute to the achievements of groundbreaking women in music by belting out a lively rendition of Khan's 1978 classic "I'm Every Woman." Her set was the perfect way to end the AMA's 50th-anniversary special, which also featured sets from RAYE, Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey and more.

Chaka Khan is also celebrating five decades in the music industry. The "Queen of Funk" and her band Rufus struck gold with their breakthrough hit "Tell Me Something Good" written by Stevie Wonder in 1974. It helped Rufus and Chaka Khan earn their first Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group Or Chorus a year later. Khan went on to win 10 Grammys in total throughout her career.

Despite everything she's accomplished, Khan isn't the type to feel nostalgic. During her recent cover story for Harper's Bazaar, the accomplished singer said she appreciates her past achievements but she's focused on the future.

"I’m not nostalgic at all," Khan told the outlet. "I’m just busy with my life, and suddenly I’ve been doing it for 50 years... I’m just living every day like everybody else, so I’m surprised when birthdays come up. I’m like, ‘Oh, wow, tempus fugit,’ and I keep it moving. I’m really a next person."
