The good vibes around the Patriots (1-2) have disappeared following two losses in five days with the most recent one coming in embarrassing fashion in Jersey to the Jets 24-3.

Postgame head coach Jerod Mayo once again introduced the potential of starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett being replaced by Drake Maye next Sunday in San Francisco. This after bringing in Mayo in relief against the Jets.

Mayo walked that back in his virtual presser, "Everything is always under evaluation, but just so I'm clear, Jacoby is still our starting quarterback, until I say he's not."

The quarterback dynamic with the Patriots this year has always been an awkward one, thus the questions, but if there was ever a loss that you couldn't blame on the QB it was this one.

Brissett was under constant barrage thanks to a lack of communication and poor blocking from a swiss cheese offensive line that allowed him to be hit 10 times, and sacked five.

"The communication as a whole, has to be better," said Mayo. "I still have faith in those guys to get the job done."

So it seems unfair and perhaps impossible to render an accurate judgement on whether Brissett is performing well, and to speculate about his job when he's trying to play under these conditions.

But, let's be honest. this isn't really his starting job anyway, it's Maye's. He is the quarterback of the future. He is getting 30% of the starter reps in practice.

Sox Still Alive for AL Wild Card (techinically)

The Boston Red Sox somehow went 2-5 on a crucial road trip, are 76-77 and remain in contention, mathematically, for the playoffs.

How may you ask is this possible?

Well, they play a three-game set at Fenway against the Twins who're tied for the final wild card spot with the Tigers, who're in Baltimore against the Orioles this weekend.

A sweep this weekend over the Twins, while Orioles take care of the Tigers and boom, a game or two out going into the final week of play.

"If we want a good shot at making the playoffs, we got to not only win this series, but it would be really nice to sweep," said tomorrow's Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford.

BC Football Looks to Rebound in Red Bandana Game Against Michigan State

The Boston College Eagles fell out of the top 25 following their 27-21 loss at #7 Missouri on Saturday, but proved they'll be back in the rankings soon enough.

This week they welcome a Michigan State team at 8pm to Chestnut Hill that's in a rebuild mode, but has begun the season 3-0.

All eyes will be on BC junior standout QB Thomas Castellanos who threw two costly interceptions last week and took the loss on his shoulders.

"(I was) terrible," he said. "If I played better we would've won."

The Press Pass column drops Fridays and the show airs on iHeart NH Saturday and Sunday at 11a. Chris also covers the Patriots for WBZ-Boston's News Radio and host's New Hampshire Today weekdays from 6-9a on iHeart NH.
