Family’s Halloween Display Supports Stranger Fighting Cancer

Every day, as 65-year-old breast cancer patient Tammy Weihe, of Oxford, Ohio, drove to radiation treatment, she would always smile as she passed by a home with a whimsical Halloween display featuring skeletons arranged in different amusing scenarios. One day the skeletons would be in a pool, the next they’d be bowling, but the sight would always lift her spirits. Touched by the creativity, she wrote a letter to the homeowners, saying how much the decorations brightened her days during what’s been a difficult time.

The homeowner, Bill Pyles, was worried when he saw a letter addressed to “The Family Bone,” assuming it was from someone complaining about the skeletons. But as he read the letter from Tammy telling him how much the display has meant to her, he got emotional and shared it with his family. In her note, Tammy shared that the next day was her last radiation appointment, so the family quickly designed a special skeleton display featuring positive messages and cheerleading costumes, leaving her overwhelmed with gratitude.

Following her treatment, Tammy visited the family to thank them in person, leading to an emotional exchange. The experience has been eye-opening for Pyles, who now knows how even a small act of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life. Their interaction with Tammy has inspired the family to continue spreading positivity through the skeleton display. “If we can just take one little thing and make somebody smile and make their day,” Pyles says, “Then we’ve done some of the best things we could possibly do.”
