More Houston Road Construction Projects Moving to Overnight Hours

The Texas Department of Transportation in Houston said more of the heavy road construction projects will be happening during nighttime hours.

This is in an effort to have construction crews be more safe by working with less traffic and to minimize standstill time for workers and drivers too.

“Generally speaking, the focus is to minimize impacts on the traveling public during the daytime hours - when there are heavier volumes of traffic,” said spokesman Danny Perez. “This is why, as you will see on our closure list, a significant amount of work is done at night.”

KTRH traffic man Sky Mike said it's a great strategy that should've been in place a long time ago.

"We are backed up enough during the day, if it were up to me, all short-term projects would be done overnight," he said. "From a congestion standpoint, it's a great alternative."

Sky Mike believes too any weekend work done during the day would be a blessing to drivers if it were instead done overnight during the week. He reminds drivers to drive safe, no matter where they're heading.
