"The average family of four that has a Blue Shield, United, Cigna, or Aetna plan is paying an average of $30,000, but wait, they also have an average $6,000 deductible" said Dr. Phil Hennessey, co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer for CareGuide, a company that fights for patients over outrageous medical bills and price gouging.
Some tips to combat skyrocketing medical bills, is to check and see what the cost is if you use your insurance? Or if you pay with cash. And then also it's very important to make sure that you receive and itemized bill, so you can see what you're being charged for.
"They must, by federal law tell you the price, period" Dr. Hennessey told KTRH, "You'll be amazed how many shenanigans you can see when you get an itemized bill."
