An alligator was spotted in Lake Erie, Pennsylvania and witnesses couldn’t believe their eyes.

Resident Stina Roach said she was on the lake with her family when a man came over yelling for the kids to get out of the water.

About 20 to 30 yards out on the lake was a four to six foot gator. Roach says "At first I thought it was fake. But then we saw the tail and body. It was kind of scary.”

Authorities contacted a gator handler to search for the predator. Experts believe it was a pet released into the water.

While the gator can survive in Lake Erie during the summer, it won’t live through winter.

The creature is still loose.
