1 CBS News Poll: 72-Percent Of Voters Think President Biden Shouldn't Be Running For Reelection

The fallout from Thursday night’s presidential debate continues, with Democratic officials and party members sending mixed messages about the future of President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign. While there has been criticism of former President Donald Trump’s performance during the debate, the main topic of conversation around the debate was Biden’s performance, and if he should continue; Biden would be 86 at the end of another term. Yesterday saw the first polling showing the effect the debate had on voters, and it wasn’t good for Biden. A CBS News/YouGov poll released yesterday showed that 72-percent of registered voters don’t think Biden has the mental and cognitive health to serve as president, compared to 50-percent in the same poll who said Trump does. The survey is based on a national sample of 1,130 registered voters taken on Friday and Saturday. Biden spent the day at Camp David with his family yesterday, and early reports said that they are urging him to continue running, led by his wife Jill and son Hunter.

2 Hurricane Beryl Hits Category 4

The second named storm of the 2024 hurricane season made history over the weekend, becoming the first storm to reach “major” status in the month of June. Hurricane Beryl reached Category 4 yesterday, with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph. The center of Beryl is expected to cross the Windward Islands today, then move on toward the Yucatan peninsula. The storm could bring hurricane conditions to Yucatan by this weekend, after which the path of the storm becomes a bit harder to determine this far out. The consensus path from computer models shows Beryl eventually making landfall on the Mexican coast. Beryl isn’t the only game in town in the tropics. Tropical Storm Chris formed just off the Mexican coast in the Bay of Campeche yesterday, drifting over the coast inland. Tropical storm warnings were issued for portions of Mexico, with mudslides possible through today in areas with higher terrain in the warned areas. A third disturbance is developing further out in the South Atlantic, with the National Hurricane Center giving it a 40-percent chance of development as of 1 am.

3 Supreme Court Will Rule On Presidential Immunity This Morning

The Supreme Court is issuing its final rulings of the term this morning, marking a rare push into July for the court’s schedule. While there are a few cases left to be decided today, the one that’s getting the most focus is the court’s ruling on whether former President Donald Trump is immune from prosecution for his role in the Jan. 6th riot in 2021 at the US Capitol. The court will also issue its decision today on state laws to regulate social media platforms. You can track the decisions as they’re issued this morning on the SCOTUS blog, starting around 8:30 am.
