Muskegon Police know who possible drowning victim is, but still checking

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- Muskegon Police don't know yet whether someone drowned Saturday afternoon on Lake Michigan or not.

However, at the time this story was published mid-afternoon Monday, they had identified a 21-year-old Ann Arbor man as a possible victim.

Police received reports from several witnesses that there was a man in distress 200 feet off the lake's north break arm around 2 o'clock. That was at the end of the Pere Marquette south wall. Crews from multiple police and fire departments, and the Coast Guard conducted an extensive search. But no victim was located.

The search was suspended due to hazardous wind and surf conditions. Police say recovery efforts will continue for the missing swimmer, as conditions allow. They say the man's family has been notified about the situation. But nothing had been confirmed at the time of this report.

You should contact the Muskegon County Central Dispatch or the Muskegon Police Department with any additional information you may have about the incident.
