Ex-Boyfriend Trashes Apartment, Flushes Pet Fish in Rampage

Cape Coral, FL - A Cape Coral woman awoke to a terrifying scene early Saturday morning after her ex-boyfriend allegedly broke into her home.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, 28-year-old Bret Dahl gained entry through a back window and immediately became aggressive.

The victim, his former girlfriend of over six months, reported being threatened and pushed into a closet.

Dahl's rampage continued as he damaged property throughout the apartment, culminating in the destruction of the woman's beta fish tank and the apparent flushing of her pet fish "Bean" down the toilet.

He also stole the victim's iPhone before damaging her car.

The victim fled to a relative's home and contacted authorities. Dahl was later apprehended by police and now faces a multitude of charges including grand theft, burglary, property damage, animal cruelty, and obstructing justice.

The total damage is estimated at $3,370.

This isn't Dahl's first reported incident.

Police identified him as a suspect in a separate February assault on another woman, where he allegedly damaged her phone and struck her arm.

He faces additional charges for this earlier incident.
