LONG BEACH (CNS) - A suspect was shot by Long Beach Police officers during a foot pursuit and an investigation of the shooting is underway Saturday.

A LBPD officer was on patrol in the area of 58th Street and Orange Avenue at approximately 11:44 p. m. Friday when he noticed the suspect was shooting at another man, the Long Beach Police Department said. The suspect ran away, the officer chased him and during the pursuit, the officer shot the suspect.

Officers rendered medical aid to the suspect until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived and took the suspect to a hospital, the department said.

The suspect sustained injuries to his lower body and is in stable condition, police said. Officers recovered a firearm at the scene.

The victim of the shooting ran away from the scene.

No other injuries were reported and no officers were injured, police said.

Another armed suspect was fatally shot by a LBPD officer blocks away earlier Friday, but police said there is no indication the two shootings are related.
