BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson said she has no plans to resign on Wednesday despite calls from Mayor Wu and other city leaders.

"They should allow for the privilege that everyone has to due process," Fernandes Anderson said ahead of the Boston City Council meeting Wednesday afternoon.

The councilor pleaded not guilty to federal public corruption charges last week.

She is facing five counts of federal wire fraud charges and one count of aiding and abetting theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.

Prosecutors said that Fernandes Anderson orchestrated a kickback scheme when she took $7,000 in tax payer money after awarding a relative hired to her staff a $13,000 bonus.

"Everyone knows that that is not something you comment on," Fernandes Anderson told WBZ NewsRadio when asked about the allegations. "Let's all due process, let's go through that process and when it's time to speak, then we speak."

The councilor has surrendered her passport and has been assigned a public defender.
