An Incredible Honor.....

Shawn Myers

We met First Class Petty Officer Shawn Myers on Wednesday.

He's in the United States Navy, and he just got back from Japan.

He came by to say "Hello", and to surprise us with a flag that was flown in our honor - on the top of Mt Suribachi, Iwo Jima Japan, on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ronald Reagan (on July 4th, 2017), AND aboard a Tigertail aircraft during a joint operation.

Mt. Suribachi. The site of the famed battle of Iwo Jima, and the place where the iconic Iwo Jima photo was taken (featuring NH native Rene Gagnon). The most famous war photo in history.

We were all speechless.  I'm writing this hours later, and I still am.

Shawn listened to our show while serving via iHeartRadio (which aired at 6:30p, Japan time), and downloaded the podcasts. He explained that it was his way of thanking us for what we do, and how doing so helped him feel closer to home while he served overseas.

I just shook my head. HE thanked US. Clearly - it seemed backwards- but he insisted.  I'd be lying if I said it wasn't emotional. It was. We were all totally humbled, and incredibly appreciative. This means more to us than he will ever know. But if anyone deserves thanks - it's him, not us.

But here's what I can tell you -

That long after this radio thing comes to an end - I will never forget what Shawn did for us today. It was emotional for me. And that flag will be one of our most treasured posessions forever.

Thank you so much, First Class Petty Officer Myers - for serving our country, and for honoring us in a way none of us will ever forget.
