Charges will be elevated against the former Minneapolis police officer arrested in connection with George Floyd's arrest death - and the three other officers involved will also face charges, according to multiple reports.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced at a press conference Wednesday afternoon that his office will elevate the charges against Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder. Chauvin is the officer who knelt on Floyd's neck for several minutes. Officers Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane will be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar confirms this saying, ""Ellison is increasing charges against Derek Chauvin to 2nd degree in George Floyd’s murder and also charging other 3 officers. This is another important step for justice."
The Star Tribune reports, Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the Floyd family tweeted that they have been arrested. Thao is on video watching as Chauvin and the others pinned Floyd down until he died May 25.
The story will be updated as it develops.
