Pizza Chain Pulls Down Billboard After Social Media Backlash

What some might find clever or funny, others will deem offensive. It's a line to walk and a lesson one franchise owner is learning. To advertise his Barberton location of East of Chicago Pizza, Jeremy Clemetson used the slogan "Fat people are harder to kidnap" in his marketing material. But as soon as he put up a billboard with the same expression, calls started rolling into the Ohio-based chain's corporate offices. Social media backlash was also swift, noting insensitivities towards the overweight and the fact that it makes light of kidnapping. Clemetson pulled down the advert on Monday afternoon, but has left it up on earlier Facebook posts, says TODAY Foods. How can people balance between humor and offense to make both sides happy?
