At first, police in Australia thought they were performing a routine traffic stop. But after the motorist led them on a chase that ended with him crashing into a building, officers discovered they'd stumbled upon something a bit more serious.

The incident occurred earlier this week in New South Wales when a New England Police District officer attempted to stop the unidentified 38-year-old, arrest records indicate. Instead of stopping, the man turned into a business park and led police on a brief chase before crashing into a building, the report indicates. He then fled on foot.

However, the suspect didn't get far. Officers found him a short distance from the crash site, hiding in a storm drain. A subsequent search of his vehicle turned up burglary tools and a stash of marijuana, which is illegal in Australia, police say. The man has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court January 21st, according to police.

Will marijuana be legal everywhere in the world someday?
