Eric Clapton Plays Electric Version of "Layla" First Time In Years

Eric Clapton Performs Electric Version Of 'Layla' For First Time In Years Eric Clapton did something he hadn't done in years at a recent show in Japan - perform the original electric version of "Layla". Clapton has performed "Layla" acoustic for years, but returned to the original 1970 Derek and The Dominoes version on the opening night of his five-night stand at Tokyo's Budokan arena. It was the first time in six years Clapton had played the 'plugged' version of "Layla". He would return to the acoustic version, made famous on his 1992 MTV Unplugged album, for the next three nights. Do you like seeing artists perform 'deep cuts' live or would you rather they stick to the hits? Which version of "Layla" do you prefer?

We don't have video of this latest performance, but here's his rendition at Madison Square Garden in 1999!
