Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason dropped by Buckingham Palace last week to collect his CBE -- Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his outstanding work in music.
Queen Elizabeth made the declaration in December on her New Year Honours List, but her grandson Prince William presented the medal. Though Mason had joked that he was being given the "long service medal,” he did say that the honor was "quite extraordinary, because you never have a sense of that time passing.”
Mason also chatted with the Prince as they are both helicopter pilots.
Mason is the second member of Floyd to be made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE). David Gilmour was honored in 2005.
