BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —Several inches of snow fell and covered Greater Boston area overnight.

Local residents were out shoveling sidewalks while some other used a more advanced tool, like a snow blower.

“My mom bought this for me for Christmas so this is my first time getting to use it,” Jamal told WBZ NewsRadio as he was plowing the snow accumulated outside his parent’s home.

Tedious tasks aside, local residents, like Fay, were not expecting to see a winter wonderland outside her window. “Snow excites me, so it’s great to be out here,” she said.

For Mark, he wouldn’t mind seeing six inches of snow in Boston. “I know that’s probably an unpopular opinion,” he added.

Megan and her dog, Foghorn, were both bundled up to stay warm while taking their stroll. “I think he really likes the snow,” she said. “Unfazed by the cold, he’s just having a good time trying to sniff around still.”

Eugenia took the opportunity to sled in the fresh powder with her daughter Maxine.

“Sledding is so much more fun than you might have remembered,” she said. “So I just encourage everyone don’t wait…. Go sledding now.”

The forecast predicts it’ll be snowing for the rest of the day and partly cloudy on Sunday.

Here are the total snowfall right now around Boston from the National Weather Service:

Lowell 3.0 in

Shutesbury 2.5 in

Saugus 2.3 in

Haverhill 2.0 in

Lexington 1.6 in

Chelsea 1.3 in

Brighton 1.0 in
