What Not to Do When There is a Wildfire

What is it with some people? in the middle of the fight against that fast moving and dangerous brush fire in Sorrento Valley Monday someone decides to fly a personal drone above the fire…with water dropping helicopters and air tankers in the sky.

You know how stupid that is and how dangerous that could be?

As one San Diego Fire Captain put it, “That is one of the most dangerous things for these pilots, to have a drone in the area.”

According to reports, police officers found the drone operator and ordered him to land it, and the operator complied. Good idea obviously. But now police are conferring with federal authorities.

Flying a drone above a fire is against the law and can mean some heavy fines.

And rightly so.

It’s not the first time that someone has flown a drone over a fire area and sadly it will probably happen again.

Flying a drone comes with it being responsible.

But taking responsibility is something that some people don’t do.

Let what happened in the skies over Sorrento Valley be a reminder of how important that can be.
