The Salvation Army is calling for donations to support its annual Christmas Bureau event in Syracuse. Scheduled for December 17 at The Oncenter in Downtown Syracuse, the event aims to provide gifts and food to families in need. Last year, 2,100 families registered for assistance, and this year, the number has already surpassed 860, with the registration deadline set for December 11.
According to the Salvation Army, the Christmas Bureau partners with community organizations to help nearly 10,000 people each year. Families must meet income eligibility requirements and register in advance to receive a food basket and gifts for children under 17. Registration is available at multiple locations in Syracuse and Liverpool.
Donations can be made by dropping off items at Toys for Tots bins or directly at The Oncenter on the day of the event. The Salvation Army also encourages participation in initiatives like the Angel Tree program, where donors select an "angel" from a tree and purchase gifts for the child. Angel Trees are located at Planet Fitness locations and Walmarts in Onondaga County.
The Salvation Army relies on community support to meet the growing demand for holiday assistance. The organization offers various ways for individuals and groups to get involved, including holding toy drives, food drives, or volunteering as bell ringers.
