Police say five people were shot Saturday afternoon in Muskegon

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- Muskegon Police say a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman are dead, and three other people injured after being shot Saturday.

The gunshots rang around just after 3 o'clock Saturday on Jackson Avenue near McLaren Street. Muskegon Police said they are actively investigating the incident, but do not believe it was a random act.

Investigators said two 25-year-old men were taken to Trinity Hospital in critical condition, and a four-year-old child was being treated at a hospital for minor injuries and would likely be released soon.

There was no immediate information about what the motive for the shooting spree was, or who may have fired the gunshots.

"Additional details, including victim identification, will be released as the investigation progresses and after appropriate notifications have been made," Muskegon Police said in a news release on Saturday evening.

Anyone with information related to this incident should contact the Muskegon Police Department at 231-724-6750 or Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
