Rob Lowe mentioned he got Toto to play on a demo when he was dabbling in music decades ago. Well, it turns out his memory might be a bit hazy, which he himself admitted was during a period when he was doing a lot of cocaine. Toto's spokesman recently clarified the situation, stating, “Toto as a band never did a session with Rob Lowe." Instead, Lowe spent an afternoon in the studio with just two of the band’s members – David Paich and Steve Porcaro.
Paich and Porcaro were highly sought-after session players in the 1970s and 1980s. During the time Lowe mentioned on his podcast, the duo was working on a project outside of Toto when a producer suggested giving Lowe a shot behind the mic. Unfortunately, the session didn’t go as planned, and nothing substantial really came from it. So, while Lowe did get a taste of working with some of Toto's talent, it wasn't quite the full band experience he remembered.
Toto's spokesman also noted that guitarist Steve Lukather confirmed he spent time with Lowe once in 1985 in Japan and hasn’t seen him since. It's still a fun story, though.
