Matt Stell just announced on Instagram that he not only proposed to his girlfriend Kasey, but they also got married the next day. He called into the Bobby Bones Show to talk about how it all happened like that.
Stell knew that he was going to propose on an upcoming trip in Mexico. He had already arranged for both of their parents to fly out there for the proposal. It was about a week out from them leaving, and Stell realized he was ready to skip over all the planning stuff, he just wanted to be married. So he hit up his friend Will that they would be flying out to see and asked him to get ordained online just in case his soon to be fiancé would say yes to also getting married that same weekend.
When Stell got down on one knee and asked Kelsey to marry him, he also asked if she would marry him that weekend. He told her that fiancé is a dumb word and he didn't want them to be that for very long, he wanted to be her husband right away. Initially she said yes, but he encouraged her to sleep on it just to be sure it's what she really wanted to do. A couple hours later they were laying by the pool, and she said she didn't need to think about it anymore, she wanted to get married. So they got married on the beach, same place as the proposal with both of their parents in attendance and his best friend officiating.
Stell also admitted that he didn't really think through their clothing choices when he was planning all of this. He wore the same he proposed in because no one ever cares what the guy wears. And thankfully she had packed a new white outfit that she ended up wearing. but that was a total coincidence. He had also forgot to purchase a ring for himself, so he had to borrow one for the ceremony. Just this week he received his own ring from Amazon in the mail.
They do plan to do a honeymoon separately despite the engagement and marriage happening at the same time. Stell also said they plan to do a reception tour where they will likely do something in Arkansas (where he's from), Nashville (where they currently live), and Maryland (where she's from). But they aren't going to do a dress or any of the detailed wedding things, they will just be fun parties about celebrating their marriage.
When asked how he knew she was the one, Stell admitted that they were doing long distance for awhile, but if it ever lined up where they would be living in the same place together than that would be it and she would be his wife. He knew early on in them dating that them getting married was what he wanted.
