Artist Spotlight: UnLearn the World Is Hip-Hop’s Rising Star and Ambassador

UnLearn the World has made a lasting mark on the music industry, blending powerful lyricism with the raw emotion of hip-hop. His album The God That Sins has not only captivated critics but also earned its place on numerous "Album of the Year" lists. A blend of creativity, storytelling, and unique collaborations with industry legends, this project is one of the most talked-about in recent memory. As he prepares to release a deluxe version of the album in 2025, we spoke with the artist about his rise, collaborations, and evolving role in shaping both music and culture.

His journey to this level of recognition hasn't been an overnight success. The artist credits the album’s success to a conscious decision to elevate his creativity. “I raised the bar of my own creativity and my ability to tell a story, my story,” he reflects. From writing lyrics that go deeper than surface-level punchlines to meticulously producing his own vocals, he set out to make something that would connect with listeners on a personal and artistic level.

The album features collaborations with heavyweights like Ghostface Killah, Benny the Butcher, Ab-Soul, and Papoose. “Even though I wasn’t able to be in the studio with these artists as much as I would’ve liked, the collabs sound cohesive,” he explains. The result is a dynamic body of work where each feature complements the other, creating an experience that is both artistic and timeless. “This is art,” he adds, “and I think the culture is shifting to be more interested in the art behind Hip-Hop.”

His collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah on Uncanny Behavior stands out as a career-defining moment. Growing up in New York City, Wu-Tang’s music served as the soundtrack to his youth, and collaborating with Ghostface was a dream come true. “Ghostface has always been one of my favorite rappers,” he says. “Some of my most memorable shows have been opening up for him.” For him, this track was more than just a collaboration—it was a milestone moment, a culmination of years of admiration and respect for one of Hip-Hop’s greatest. The pairing isn’t just about musical prowess; it's about generational respect.

The song resonated so deeply with fans that it charted impressively, and for him, it reinforced the idea that collaboration isn’t just about sharing space with a well-known name—it’s about mutual respect and chemistry. This collaboration shows how Hip-Hop continues to evolve, embracing artists from different walks of life while maintaining the integrity of its roots.

His influence doesn’t end at the U.S. border. His recent tour of the UK with GZA showcased the global appeal of Hip-Hop, with God’s Favorite even charting on the iTunes UK chart. Reflecting on his time in the UK, he notes, “They still keep the true spirit of Hip-Hop culture alive out there. They don’t use rap to sell products like we do here in the U.S.” This purity of the culture was evident in the sold-out shows and the overwhelming love he received from fans.

He also emphasizes the importance of international relationships, noting that his experiences on three continents in 2024 have made him more aware of how Hip-Hop can transcend borders. “Hip-Hop is a global force,” he says, “and I think we benefit from seeing how the culture grows overseas.” For him, connecting with global audiences not only shapes his artistry but also fosters a sense of shared responsibility within the culture. As he continues to tour worldwide, he sees himself as a bridge between cultures, using his music to unite people across different regions.

In addition to his career as a recording artist, he plays an important role as an educator and mentor. Having lectured at prestigious institutions like Harvard and in cities as far-reaching as Dubai, he uses his platform to speak on the power of Hip-Hop as a tool for social change. "Hip-Hop culture is one of America’s biggest exports," he says. "I consider myself an ambassador and diplomat of Hip-Hop in every room that I’m in."

His role as an educator is just as important to him as his music. Through his work with Hip Hop For Change Inc., he helps young artists navigate the intersection of artistry and activism. “We’re building a pipeline for young people to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and groundbreaking culture bearers,” he says. His non-profit provides free studio time and education to young artists, helping them build sustainable careers and use their art to drive social change. “Hip-Hop changed my life,” he reflects. “I want the culture to do the same for our young people.”

His vision for The God That Sins continues to evolve. In 2025, he’ll release a deluxe version of the album, adding new collaborations with artists like Ab-Soul and Papoose. The decision to release a deluxe edition stems from his commitment to providing his fans with a deeper understanding of his artistry. “I try to pick artists I admire but I know I would sound good with,” he says. "People with something to say and a dope way of saying it."

The deluxe edition will also showcase more of his personality, offering listeners a glimpse into his vulnerabilities. "These extra songs show you a different side of me," he adds. "I’m making a statement with each collab." For him, this is more than just a chance to expand his album; it's an opportunity to continue pushing the boundaries of his sound and message.

One of the most exciting milestones in his career is the inclusion of his track “Bread, Bricks, Hunnids” in Grand Theft Auto 6. The intersection of gaming and music offers a new platform for artists to gain exposure, and for him, it's a natural evolution of how Hip-Hop engages with modern technology. “Video games are a good first step,” he says. “It’s definitely another stream of income, and it’s another way to get music out there.” He recognizes the importance of new platforms, and as an artist, he aims to stay ahead of the curve. With his music featured on Grand Theft Auto 6 and other prominent platforms, he sees the digital space as an essential part of Hip-Hop’s future, allowing independent artists to control their destinies without relying solely on traditional industry gatekeepers.

Balancing his music career with his role as a mentor to young artists can be a challenge, but he is committed to making a difference. He credits his self-care routine—executive leadership classes, therapy, and regular workouts—with helping him stay grounded while managing the pressures of a busy career. "I’ve made education and music my entire lifestyle while helping my community," he says. Through his nonprofit, he is helping young artists develop both professionally and personally. By teaching the elements of Hip-Hop alongside social justice, media training, and personal growth, he is empowering the next generation to lead and innovate in their own right. “We artists create opportunities for others to make a difference while building their brand,” he explains.

As he continues to make waves in the music industry, he’s also focused on building a lasting legacy. “I think I’m paving my own way,” he says. “I’m very grateful for all the people who tell me how my journey inspires them.” For him, it’s not just about the accolades or recognition—it's about ensuring that his music, his activism, and his work with young people continue to resonate long after he’s gone. "The music just gives us social capital to make a bigger impact," he reflects.

Finally, he sees a shift happening within the music industry—one where independent artists are beginning to reclaim their power. “We’ve made this thing a multi-billion-dollar industry,” he says. “It’s time we reap the rewards instead of the labels.” Artists like him are now building platforms for themselves and others, pushing the culture forward on their own terms.

The music industry may be changing rapidly, but one thing is clear: artists like UnLearn the World are not just riding the wave—they’re shaping it. Through his music, his mentorship, and his commitment to global Hip-Hop culture, he is poised to leave a lasting legacy that will inspire generations to come.
